Welcome to the Cottages of Winedale. We hope you can feel at home in our country bed & breakfast. The Kolber Kottage and the Kardinal Kabin are located only 4 miles away from Round Top which is internationally known for its Spring and Fall Antique Shows.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. Some of these are grown seasonally in the orchard & garden east of the front porches. Your stay at The Kottage or The Kardinal may include homemade muffins, coffee cake, breads, local jams, and juice each morning.
The kitchens are fully equipped with pots, pans, and utensils if you choose to cook. The themed bedrooms rooms each have queen beds and pillow top mattresses. Soap, shampoo and hair-dryers are provided as well in the bathrooms. There is an attached meeting room to the Kottage, called the Texas Room, that has a full kitchen and two beds that can be used for extra lodging.
Explore our 26 acres of rolling hills and beautiful trees, and a stocked fish pond. In addition to the beautiful scenery at the Kottage & The Kardinal, you can also explore the nearby Winedale Historical Center, live theatre performances at Shakespeare-At-Winedale, and the Festival Hill Institute, where symphonies hold concert events throughout the year. The Festival Hill building is also an architectural marvel. Round Top is the smallest incorporated city in Texas (pop. 90) but swells to over 10,000 for the Antique Shows and the July 4th Independence Day Celebration which is the longest running Fourth of July parade west of the Mississippi River.
The Kottage & The Kardinal sit on 26 acres at the beginning of the Texas Hill Country. They incorporate elements of the previous 150 year old German farmhouse. The Kottage and The Kardinal are part of a “reestablished” working farm that is 1 mile from the Winedale Historical Center. They overlook a picturesque valley where the owner of the property is preparing the land for a wildlife habitat. We are located at the corner of Washington & Fayette Counties in an area that is known as the Post Oak Savannah and the Blackland Prairies.
We invite you to come and enjoy a relaxing stay, wander around the property and discover the plants, insects and animals that call it home. There is a wide variety of birds to view on the Farm and we have identified almost 60 different species. Enjoy the wildflowers and the butterflies in the spring or wander down to the pond. Watch for the small deer herd that inhabits the area. The Kottage & The Kardinal sit on the edge of one of the main flyways in this part of Texas. We have seen pelicans, geese, and ducks migrating at different times of the year so you never know what you are going to see.
